Safe Driving Tips for Motorcyclists

We've all seen those idiots weaving in and out of traffic as if they were on a track day and they give us all a bad name. Here are a few general tips to make sure that you're not type cast as "One of those idiot bikers" .

Be Seen
One of the most common causes of accidents with motorbikes is that the other driver didn't see them. Of course you can still be hit when you're doing everything right but these tips should help reduce your chances of being knocked off.

1) Blind Spot = Bad
NEVER, EVER sit in a drivers blind spot. If they can't see you they'll assume you turned off. This is a common accident and could so easily be avoided, there's absolutely no reason to be riding along next to a car, either ride behind or overtake.

2) Motorway Speeding
This is also a common accident. The motorway is queuing but you can squeeze through between the cars, if you're going to do this make sure that you take your time, many drivers just don't expect you to be bombing through the traffic at 70mph. Never assume that someone has seen you.

3) Take Your Time
We're well aware that riding a bike gives you more opportunity to by pass the general traffic but this doesn't mean you are allowed to undertake and squeeze into small spaces. When driving through congested traffic don't surprise other drivers by squeezing into spaces they've left for braking, this will only annoy them and possible increase the likely hood of you being the filling in a car sandwich.

These are all simple tips but some bikers disregard them, of course they're usually the ones who end up in hospital because their luck has finally run out. We're well aware that whatever you do there's plenty of stupid car drivers out there but you owe it to yourself and others to do the best you can to protect yourself.
