Reduce your speed and reduce your premium?

With the high number of motorists being caught speeding it would seem that we are not too bothered about picking up points and fines. But what many of us don't realise is that the amount of points and a £60 fine is the least of y;our worries.

When it is time to renew your car insurance you have to declare any points on your licence; this means that your insurance premium will rise. If you fail to declare you points your policy may be invalid.

Cyclops, the company that makes in-car speed cameras, claims that speeding convictions can treble your motor insurance premium.

Figures released by Cyclops show how the number of points on your licence can affect your premium.

  • Three points - £196
  • Six points - £512
  • Nine - £1,500

Motorist groups have tirelessly campaigned for the removal of speed cameras, as they see it as just another way for the government to make money from the general public. Many of these groups claim that electronic signs warning you when you are driving too fast work better than speed cameras, but for now the government insists that speed cameras are still the best deterrent.

Insureyourmotor.co.uk specialises in insuring drivers who may have served driving bans or points have points on their licence.
