Roads of The Future

Bikers have been complaining about the state of the roads for years, we pay road tax and low cost bike insurance so why shouldn't we have the right to complain? The fact is that some of the UK roads are dangerous for vulnerable road users such as bikers with the government opting for patching and banding instead of replacing entire surfaces where needed.

Things are looking up with the government finally recognising bikers as important road users who pay their road tax and bike insurance. Development of new biker friendly technology is currently being tested throughout the UK and looks to make our lives safer in the near future. The developments include:

Heated roads - New technology to store summer heat in under road thermal storage pipes to be released during the winter months could put an end to the UK's icy winter roads.

Crash Barriers - New bike safe crash barriers are being tested that stop riders from sliding underneath current barriers which causes more injuries to riders.

Intelligent Cats Eyes - Cats eyes that actually independently light up in the dark via solar powered lights could help riders follow the road better in the dark. Some of these cats eyes could also flash to warn of hazards ahead.

In closing, it's nice to see that the government has actually noticed the two wheeled vehicles on the roads. However it's a good thing that the government is testing this new safety technology because if they don't do something about the actual state of the roads soon I think we may all be needing the extra safety measures for when we spill our bikes due to poor road surfaces.

Poll

Should tax discs be scrapped in favour of charging per mile?

Yes. I don't use the roads much so shouldn't pay the same as everyone else.
No. People who drive for a living would be far worse off
