Biker Discrimination - Police Outburst Causes Outrage

Recent attacks on bikers by two of the Britain's leading police officers have outraged the biking community.

David Collins chief constable of North Yorkshire police recently said that he knows very little about the motorcycle fraternity and the culture, but he knows about the law. This didn't stop him from commenting on bikers and suggesting that biking has become somewhat of an extreme sport and the police will make sure you are punished if caught breaking the law. He also outraged bikers by suggesting that if you speed on a bike then you are conscientiously breaking the law and if you are willing to break the law when speeding what's to say you won't break other aspects of the law. How can a man who openly admits to knowing next to nothing about bikers attack our community and each individual in that community in such a way!

Richard Brunstrom chief constable of North Wales was the second leading officer to outrage bikers with his comments. Brunstrom has made comments recently claiming that changes in the law need to be made allowing the police to put more speed cameras hidden in cat's eyes and in road side furniture to catch speeding motorcyclists. He claims this is because 'motorcyclists are harder to catch than car drivers'. What planet do these people come from? Why are they so keen on targeting bikers? It is my view that a biker should be no harder to catch speeding than a car driver, we all drive on the same roads past the same speed cameras. If a bike is speeding past a camera it will be snapped just as easily as a car. When it comes to catching speeders with mobile and hand held units the same should also apply as the equipment shouldn't be any more biased to cars as to bikes. Maybe Mr Brunstrom should concentrate his efforts on the policing of his roads catching the dangerous drivers (regardless of whether they are on two wheels or four) in the places where they pose the most risk to safety. This could be a better approach to reducing deaths on the road rather than placing spy cameras on quiet country roads to increase the government revenue.

The problem is that the people in charge of policing our roads today openly admit to having little knowledge about the biking community. When the majority of bikers are paying for bike insurance, forking out for road tax and following the laws of the road it is very offensive when these officials bunch everyone in the same group as the minority of mindless bikers.
