Sports Bikes - Why Buy British?

In today's biking world the choice for the rider is becoming more and more extensive especially within the sports bike range. When purchasing a bike the consumer now has countless numbers of manufactures to choose from, so how do you narrow down the list?

There are so many bike magazines available in today's shops that spend a lot of time testing the bikes and putting their opinions across to the consumer. It should be remembered however that these are only personal opinions and riders should get up and test ride these bikes for themselves before dismissing them all together.

Everyone has heard of Kawasaki, Honda and Yamaha and the first thought that probably springs to mind are sports bikes. It is not in question that these companies make some of the best sports bikes in the industry especially within the 600cc range. Bikes such as the Kawasaki Ninja, Honda CBR and the Yamaha R6 have battled it out in the reviews to be the king of the 600's for many years now. In late 2002 however a new contender arrived on the market and it wasn't pulling any punches. The british designed Triumph Daytona 600 came as a bit of a shock to the markets leading competitors as it has always been difficult to break onto the 600 scene but this is just what triumph did.

Triumph is widely known through out the world as a bike manufacture generally specializing in street bikes, in a similar style to the Harley Davidsons and showed just what their designers were capable of in the sixties with the release of the Bonneville. Now with over a hundred years experience in designing and producing motorcycles Triumph have come up with a bike that could really take the industry by storm. The Daytona 600 propelled triumph into the market of the 600 sports. Not wanting to be left behind the engineers at the Triumph factory in Hinckley, Great Britain set about upgrading the machine almost immediately and in late 2004 the Daytona 650 was born.

The fact of the matter is that the Japanese bikes have cornered the market for years and for good reason with their bikes performing so well over time. The triumph however is hot on their heels, after being on the market for over three years now the reviewers are still giving the thumbs up and owners are not relating any significant problems with the machine.

So the question to all those bike riders out there is why buy British?

Price - The Triumph Daytona 650 comes in at a significantly lower price than its three main direct competitors, a major reason to buy British

Depreciation - Triumphs are renowned for holding their value and have shown to hold their value better than there three main direct competitors, another good reason to buy British.

Servicing - Triumph servicing is renowned for being cost efficient within the industry due to the fact that all bikes are made in the UK, a fantastic reason to but British

So in closing Triumph are beginning to become a major player in the sports bike industry, with the exceptional reviews still pouring in and things looking like they can only get better it looks like more and more bike enthusiasts may be buying British.

Should tax discs be scrapped in favour of charging per mile?

Yes. I don't use the roads much so shouldn't pay the same as everyone else.
No. People who drive for a living would be far worse off
