Motorcyclitist accounting for too many fatalities

A recent study complied in the UK showed that motorcylists were up to six times more likely to be involved in fatal road accidents. The study has again highlighted the dangers of riding motorcycles.

Althought these dangers have been brought to our attention on many occosions before, the motivtion behind this latest initiative is keep people aware of the dangers. Other areas such as comprehensive bike insurance and basic training has also being looked as a potention problem area that needs to be addressed.

The National Safety Council is set to launch a new advertising campaign, it is rummored that the ad is likely to graphic images in to shock biker and car divers into taking more care on the road.

The figure show that motorcyclitist make up only 2% of road traffic in Ireland, but they account for 12% of fatalities, a number that is much to high according to the National Safety Council.

The National Safety Council chairman as urged the government to act, as the study also found out that 7 out of 10 biker do not even have the basic training needed to ride bikes on the road.

According to the AA Republic of Ireland as many rural roads and this is said to be the reason for the highest motorbike fatality rates in Europe.
