After recent pressure from various Motorist groups, the Government has lined up proposals to ensure that foreign divers are tracked down and fined in a similar way that UK motorist are penalised.
The Government has the full backing of the British public, as many feel that is should be one rule for all. Recent surveys have show that over 70% of 1000 British motorist surveyed want foreign drivers to face the same endorsements on their licences. Many UK residents we outraged to find out those foreign drivers can escape punishment by simply leaving the country.
Figures from the Association of the London Government illustrate the problem, as over £30 million worth of fines incurred by foreign driver have still yet to be paid. These fines range from speed tickets, parking and bus lane fines. The main problem is that once the individual has left the country it can cost 4 times the fine to trace that person.
The new safety bill soon to pass through the House of Lord will enable the police to issue on the spot fines to foreign drivers. The law with also allow the driver to contest the fine, but only in a UK court.
This new law has been prised by the DVLA as it will allow them to exchange information with their opposite numbers. This will give them vital information on the drivers, driving history.
